Lodge/Chapter News:

Newport, NH Moose Win Parade

> Every year, Newport, NH Lodge 1236 and Chapter 662 work together to build a float for Newport’s annual Winter Carnival. This year, the Lodge and Chapter followed a medieval theme, and built a float that looked like a castle, which they dubbed “Moosealot.”

The carnival took place in February, but work on the float started in January and required effort by Lodge and Chapter members every night for four weeks.
All that work was rewarded with a first-place trophy. A medieval murder-mystery followed the parade along with a medieval-style dinner.

A Bang-Up Halloween Party at Richmond, MI

> Here’s an innovative way to spice up a Halloween party! Richmond, MI Lodge 2575/Chapter 2300 got a local businessman to donate his time and costs to operate his Skytrak, from which the Lodge and Chapter launched a candy-filled pumpkin from a height of nearly 100 feet (upper right). The children, who were kept a safe distance away while the orange missile plummeted toward the earth, raced to gather the goodies after the pumpkin squashed itself on the yard behind the Lodge building (above). Volunteers gathered candy to throw to the small children who weren’t involved in the scramble.

New Castle, PA Lodge 51 and Chapter 8 hosted their annual Halloween party, and the kids got a chance to show off their costumes in a group photo at the end of the festivities. The Lodge was decorated for the party, there were games and great food, and every child in attendance got to decorate a pumpkin which they were then able to take home. Children also got goodie bags to take with them and three extravagantly-decorated pumpkins went home as door prizes.

The Ohio State Moose Association and Indian Lake, OH Lodge 1533 took second place last year in the Turkeyfoot Hospice Parade. OSMA President Dave Simpson (center) rode on the float.

Dorothea Hits 100, Dansville NY Women Celebrate

Dorothea Prame cuts into one of several commemorative cakes at her 100th-birthday celebration last Aug. 19. As of this April, she was still out and about, and going strong.

> When a co-worker reaches her 100th birthday in good health, the proper thing to do is throw a party, and that’s just what Dansville, NY Chapter 670 did for Dorothea Prame when she reached the century mark on Aug. 19, 2007.

The party took place in the dining room of Dansville Lodge 1130, and members of both the Chapter and Lodge attended to celebrate Prame’s birthday, part of an overall party crowd of 275.

Prame, the oldest member of Chapter 670, is a 45-year member of the Women of the Moose. Her mother, the late Bessie Kennedy, was a charter member of the Chapter.

Prame still lives independently and does all her own housework and cooking. She is the mother of 10 children; all are still living.

Her daughter, Madge Cuddeback, is a Past Deputy Grand Regent for New York State and is also a member of Chapter 670.

Prame has two brothers and one sister still living; all three attended the party as well.
