2-Year Project Nearly Done in 1 Year!
> There are moments when the “can-do” spirit of the Moose Legion reaches new, even more impressive heights!
The current Mooseheart Powerhouse renovation project is just such a project. Introduced July 1 at the Moose Legion Breakfast during the 2007 International Convention, the $200,000 fundraising project had a completion date of April 30, 2009. By March 2008, the project was already 94 percent funded, and money continued to flow to further bring the project toward completion!
“I thought it was aggressive, but I was also skeptical,” Moose Legion Director Shawn Baile said. “This has worked better than any fundraising project I’ve been around.” The very real possibility now exists that the project will be complete by the 2008 International Convention--one full year ahead of schedule!
“The Moose Legion has always been able to step up and fund the big-ticket repairs or replacements at Mooseheart,” Mooseheart Executive Director Scott Hart said. “They never back down from a challenge, and are fantastic supporters of our Mooseheart kids.”
The project involved overhauling two of the campus’s 20-year old generators and also to upgrade some switch gear that allows the Mooseheart campus to remove itself from the local electric utility “grid.”
Hart said there have been times when the generators have not started immediately when the campus suffered a power outage. He added there are greater benefits to having the powerhouse working reliably and efficiently. “When it was time we needed them, the generators weren’t reliable,” Hart said. “This is a great step as we look to run efficiently. In summertime, on really warm days, we will be able to produce electicity cheaper than we could buy it on the open market--and any excess, we can sell on the open market. We can now go through 2008 and beyond knowing that we will have this need met on our campus.” |
